~ Who We Are ~

We are Scott and Amelia Hendricks from Raleigh, NC. Well, not originally for Scott. He is from a little Dutch dairy-farming town in northwest Washington State. He came to the land of red clay in 1994 and has been here long enough to talk funny, according to his Washington family. Scott has three grown children and one grandson. Amelia was born and raised here, a city girl for sure, but with a farming heritage. Her children have paws or hooves. God showed His sense of humor by bringing us together, but He has done a great job of blending our diversity into a fabulous life!

~ What We Do ~

We dabble at this and that. Scott is an electrician/handyman by gifting and trade. Amelia is a retired nurse and real estate agent. Recently, we have joined the increasing number of people who are seeking a more self-sustaining and organic way of life. We are urban homesteaders on our acre of paradise!

We didn't wake up one day and decide to become homesteaders. We backed into it baby step by baby step. Chickens started out as something for Amelia to do while caring for her elderly father at home. Then, one chilly morning when we discovered our first egg, warm from the nest on Christmas Eve 2008, a desire to be more self-sustaining took root. We took inventory of what we buy often at the grocery store and explored how to produce our own.

Three backyard chickens became a flock of hens, goats and several honey bee hives. We added fruit trees, grape vines, an herb garden and expanded our vegetable garden. We added cold frames that allow us to eat fresh even during the winter mnths. We drink the most delicious, freshest milk you ever tasted; eat day-old eggs with bright orange yolks and honey that merits its moniker "nectar of the gods"; enjoy home grown fruits and veges; and make cheese, yogurt, ice cream and soap.

We like to share with we do with others. We have home school groups, day care children, customers and others who drop by to see what goes on behind our fence. We sell products from our farm such as eggs, honey, soap, bees wax lip balm and candles. Visit our Farmer's Market to see what is currently available.
